Helaman 5:12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the arock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your bfoundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty cstorm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.

First letter home 5-29-10

I'm doing well up here. I must admit, I didn't expect it would be so rapid that I'd be in a leadership position-they already named me District Leader on Thursday evening. Really, I'm just a glorified mailman, but as my district jokes, I'll end up Assistant to the President at this rate.
Yes, it was a little plane, but since the flight to Madrid is 18 hours long, we'll either get a 747 or a 777 for the second half of the flight.

The food here is fine. Some of the elders who've been here a while say it gets repetitive, but we'll be gone in three weeks.

I've been careful, though I slipped and smacked my rear end on a ceramic step. It's a little sore at the moment. ;) No, I didn't crack my coccyx.

For this week, my pday is on Saturday, but for the next two weeks it'll be on Friday. I'm doing laundry at the moment.

Classes are fine. We keep busy throughout the day, and go to bed by 10:30 every night. I've been told that with the way things work in Barcelona, we get to pick one cultural event to attend every so often, including the Running of the Bulls.

My companion is good. Elder Allphin is from Utah (as are most of the people here.) All four of the people in my dorm are going to Barcelona, and three were originally called to Bilbao. The others in my district are heading to Panama and Honduras.

Since we didn't get water purifiers, and they did, we're going to be in a good, modern place.

I think the most common calls at the moment are to Mesa or Phoenix, actually. Lots of people heading there.

I had an interesting experience. Hermano Fernandez, one of my teachers, sent a group of four from our district, including me, to be 'tested' to see if we should move up to the Intermediate Spanish class. I qualified, but didn't feel good about it. I asked if I could pray about it, and went back to class. All throughout the day I still felt poorly about leaving my companion, and told myself I would pray that night. As I went to the opening Branch Presidency meeting, I felt a calm and knew I was going to get my answer. Shortly after, President Shumway called me in and said "We'd like you to be District Leader.". So I'm still here, thankfully.

That's all I've got at the moment. Hope you are well...

Bradley.
